Changing the Narrative of Our World Economic System

With horrendous global inequality and the climate crisis upon us, many people believe our only salvation is to create a new world economic system – one that is not exploitative, but one that is cooperative and inclusive of all the Earth’s citizens.

The culminating narrative of unbridled capitalism is the story of Earth’s destruction. Can we, please, change the story?

Capitalism Is Just a Story

We believe that the world is run by governments, and those governments ae democrat. The most powerful entities on Earth are what? Corporations. Not governments. Businesses that operate for private profit, and not public good. […] All we lack is the confidence to see beyond the constraints of our present story. […] Will you stand with the rest of the world’s social movements to create a better world? ~ Capitalism Is Just a Story

Whatever new economic forms arise, it is obvious that huge, powerful corporations must be pruned back.

  • Unbridled capitalism, an emphatic no; but capitalism within a regulatory framework, yes; because, worldwide, it is seen to have yielded best results, vis-a-vis other systems. Enlightened capitalism fosters enterprise, dynamism, innovation, the spirit of enquiry, tapping into latent energies of individuals in a manner that benefits society. While profit is the dominant objective, the aforementioned aspects also take off almost concurrently. You just have to look around, JoAnn, you are much better off than your counterparts in the socialist bloc countries…

    • I’m glad you made this point. And that is why I said ‘unbridled.’ Because if there are global regulations that protect workers’ wages and safety, and the environment, then the economic system would balance – and instead of excessive profits, healthy profits would be possible. (Trade would also be balanced.)

Some people would complain that it would not be free enterprise. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I think free enterprise means individuals are free to earn private profits. Of course, they are also free to fail at their business endeavors (unlike what happened with the Big Banks).

What I’d like to see are profitable businesses that are successful because they are smart, have foresight, are industrious (hard working), and rightfully see themselves as part of a community that supports their efforts – not because they are able to exploit workers and natural resources.

    • I meant to add that it would be much easier to apply sensible regulations to our present capitalistic system than trying to implement something entirely new.

  • Yes we are on the Cusp of change.. Its not going to be an easy ride though for any of us.. But it HAS to Change..

Many thanks for sharing.. The monetary systems can not carry on being propped up as they are with printing more money.. In corrupt corporations.. Its good to see more and more of these corruptions being exposed.. but the main one is still ruling and so many are blinded to the Truth..
    Thank you for sharing.

    • It is a massive undertaking. I wonder who will take the lead? Or will a country/region here and there take action? Will it involve violent revolutions? While the climate crisis may actually propel us toward global economic change, will we have time to accomplish what needs to be done?

      • There will be all of these elements involved I feel.. The problem being is that change is subtle on many levels, If we look back pe-WWII to now a mere 70 yrs, and yet how vastly different our living, and world is as it has evolved and changed.. Who would have thought of plastic, cards to pay bills and buy goods with?..
The Mass Consciousness of the people will determine how quickly we change, Nothing is cast in stone, but before all of our own Greed and Monetary systems put us into meltdown.. I feel Mother Earth will do some of her own shaking us up JoAnn.. She is in her own Meltdown beneath the earths crust right now.. No one apart from a few I know report on how she is becoming more active.. I personally ‘Feel’ in my own bones and ‘Intuition’ that a Major Catastrophe will plunge us deeper into the spiral of survival.. And no amounts of money will help.. It will be a Global wake up call of massive proportions no one has seen the like of..
But I am not a sooth-sayer LOL.. All things are dependant upon our thoughts… What we each of us think!! has a direct re-action upon outcomes to endless possibilities.. Such is the Law of Probability..
Violent revolutions are already happening.. But should chaos happen on this major scale.. People whom we thought passive will fight to survive. its in the human nature.. We have been brought up within this framework of ‘Thinking’…. Take… Greed… to Own.. to possess…
We have not been up to see the benefits of ‘ Co-operation’… and sharing..
But we will ALL of us have to learn to co-operate for we shall all need each other..

      • Sue, thank you for taking the time to share your insight. I shall attempt to envision positive pathways to a better world for all. I don’t need to know exactly what they may be – but to allow that they exist and are percolating, and that they are strong.

      • :-) exactly… For what we think we create. So I merely point out that which we ALL give our energy too we then can alter the law of probabilities. The Power of ‘Prayer’ is the Power of Thought… And when we gather in like minded thought our minds hold unimaginable Power of Change… ( that is why most of our thoughts are manipulated as they are via the media )
It is ‘Mind Blowing’ when you see what is happening on this scale of indoctrination.

Have you read books by Alan Watts? a great mind opener. :-)
Enjoy a Positive beautiful Day xxx
