A brief and succinct history of American Democratic Socialism — and how Christian leaders led the way. A rational, eye-opening, great read! Please share. <3 Happy New Year!

Jesus Was A Socialist | The Huffington Post

“The idea of Christian socialism has a long and proud tradition. As capitalism emerged in the mid-1800s, many of its fiercest critics based their ideas on Jesus’ teachings… ~ Prof. Peter Dreier

Jesus gave us a clear and consistent message. That is why Bernie Sanders’ demand for a balance between Capitalism and Socialism inspired so many! The gift of a stable economy which results from this combination shows the advantage of practical, fact based thinking joined by altruistic, people- centered values!

A brilliant point, Lynn. To my thinking also, Bernie’s message is the moderate, balanced, well-rounded platform that works for the economy AND people. But I guess too many people see only in black or white; it’s all or nothing for them; one extreme or another; quick and easy cogitating.

Thanks for the reblog. Happy New Year!

Let’s put it this way . If our benevolent Jesus was running for political office today amidat today’s alt- right climate , what would be his chance of winning?

Interesting. Thanks for adding more historical reference to the topic. The very best to you in 2017, Micheline!

Jesus was a communist in the sense that he and his followers held all property and wealth in common to be shared as needed with all members of his growing community.

Excellent point. That’s how he and his disciples operated, and the Bible is specific in saying the larger Christian group had formed a sharing community after Jesus died. Maybe it had been evolving to that during Jesus’ ministry?

      Thank you!

No worries about Jesus messing with the State. He said, “Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s.” The best I can tell, Jesus was non-political. In addition, Jesus is also called the Prince of Peace. So… I can’t help but notice the inconsistency when some Christian folks, who want the U.S. to be a Christian nation, are nowhere near being pacifists!

      Happy 2017! <3
