The Early Warning Signs of Fascism

I Study Authoritarian Despots, and Trump Is Borrowing a Lot of Their Tactics | Vice

“To be clear, Trump is a democratically elected leader who is subject to democratic oversight and the rule of law. He is not a despot. But if American democracy were to slide toward authoritarianism, the first ten days of that process would look a lot like the ten days we just witnessed. It’s time to remind ourselves that the Constitution and democratic institutions are not self-enforcing magical documents: They are only as strong as those who fight for them during times of distress.” ~ Brian Klaas

Be aware, be fair (i.e., objective).

A key factor to me to stop his fascism is the concept “consent of the governed.” Since Trump is so concerned with being praised constantly , that factor seems to be his “Achilles heel” if his loyal following began to turn against him.

I think the speed that fascism is spreading is the real danger now. I wonder how many Trump supporters will be still with him when they see he will not in fact provide them more jobs or national security.

Unfortunately, from what I encounter, Trump supporters still think the battle was between him and Hillary. They are far from grasping the real, present, dangerous American battle is actually between democracy vs. corporate rule/fascism.

When jobs and national security don’t pan out, they’ll believe whatever he tells them. (But let’s hope he is soon impeached!)

I get your point. The descent into fascism didn’t begin with Trump. Prof. Richard D. Wolff said (paraphrased) when a country’s leading political parties lose control of the people, historically, such nations fall into fascism. In other words, when the parties can’t keep the people in line with the ruling elite’s agenda, the country is taken over by an authoritarian regime – he power elite trying to hang on any way it can. Now we must fight for democracy more fiercely than ever.
