The Benefits of Joining a Writers Group | A Writer’s Path

I’ve wondered. Now author Cynthia Hilston offers an informative view into what writers groups can be and do…

“There it was for probably the hundredth time on the sign outside my local library: writers group, meeting 8/18 2-4:00 PM.  Okay, maybe not the hundredth time, but how many times did I drive past the library, which is about two point five miles from my house, and see that group advertised and not do a darn thing?  The sign was one of those LED types that showed all the happenings at the library, from book discussion groups to story times for children.  And my library had a writers group…” Cynthia Hilston

Wonderful idea for a face to face gathering. I would like to extend my blogging to a longer form of writing or perhaps pursue poetry with more seriousness. The problem really is my erratic travel schedule but I will check this idea out. Thank you.

Longer form and poetry are two great ideas for you. Consider travel your research phase — maybe that would work from a business sense. Check with an accountant. 🙂

I stopped attending my local writer’s group a couple of years ago. It was fun and stimulating for a while, but the folks there didn’t appreciate my sci-fi stories. Their collective tastes were much more down to earth than my fiction writing.
