Lin-Manuel Miranda’s ‘Almost like Praying’ Tops the iTunes Song Chart

Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s star-studded song Almost Like Praying currently places #2 on the iTunes Songs chart. Miranda produced the song in order to raise disaster relief money for Puerto Rico after the island was hit by Category 5 Hurricane Maria on September 20, 2017.

You may remember that “almost like praying” is a line in the iconic song Maria from Broadway play and film, The West Side Story.

Proceeds benefit the Hispanic Federation’s Unidos Disaster Relief Fund. Weeks after Hurricane Maria, 90 percent of Puerto Rico remains without power. Massive relief efforts are required in order to restore Puerto Rico to a semblance of normalcy.

You may download Almost Like Praying at iTunes for $1.29. All proceeds from each sale are donated to the Hispanic Federation. Vocal Performers in the song include: Marc Anthony, Ruben Blades, Camila Cabello, Pedro Capo, Dessa, Gloria Estefan, Fat Joe, Luis Fonsi, Juan Luis Guerra, Alex Lacamoire, John Leguizamo, Jennifer Lopez, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Rita Moreno, Ednita Nazario, Joell Ortiz, Anthony Ramos, Gina Rodriguez, Gilberto Santa Rosa, PJ Sin Suela, Tommy Torres, and Ana Villafañe.

“…[Lin-Manuel Miranda] is back at the top of the charts… This time, he’s raising money and awareness for those affected by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico…

Miranda said the song came about because he ‘felt as helpless as anyone with family on the island, or friends on the island.’

‘There was a terrible sort of silence, breakdown in communications, their power grid destroyed, cell towers destroyed, and what I saw on my Facebook feed, and I’m sure a lot of other Latinos feel the same way, was this roll call of towns,’ he said on CBS This Morning.

The song calls out all 78 towns…”

Love the song. I wish there was more of an ethnic mix in the performers.
