A “must-watch.” Clean energy activists crashed the one-and-only Trump Administration panel discussion at the 2017 UN Climate Change Conference (COP23). They sang a resistance song to fossil fuel executives.

We’re proud to be American,
but we can see right through your greed…
We proudly Stand Up! until you keep it in the ground.
The people of the world unite, and we are here to stay!

“Democracy Now! was there when activists and Democratic lawmakers at the U.N. climate summit in Bonn, Germany, staged a full-fledged revolt Monday when the Trump administration made its official debut at this year’s conference with a forum pushing coal, gas and nuclear power. The presentation was entitled “The Role of Cleaner and More Efficient Fossil Fuels and Nuclear Power in Climate Mitigation.” The panel was the only official appearance by the U.S. delegation during this year’s U.N. climate summit. Of the four corporate representatives pushing nuclear, gas and coal, Lenka Kollar of NuScale Power and Amos Hochstein of Tellurian told Amy Goodman that they disagreed with Trump’s decision to pull the U.S. out of the climate agreement.” ~ Democracy Now!

  • I’m afraid that as long as there is money in politics, virtually nothing will change except the strengthening of the oligarchy. So, even as I speak up and continue to write messages to elected officials, I am very pessimistic. I actually had a Republican staffer laugh when I urged his master to vote a certain way on a bill.

Bernie Sanders was the only candidate who saw the root problem, but he was ignored by millions frightened of the word “socialist,” and undermined by the corporatists in the DNC, and even now many are insisting that the party must go for the center (a center that has been moving to the right for the past 4 decades.

    • You’re absolutely right, Max. Regarding socialism… how could otherwise intelligent people think democratic socialism, like the Nordics enjoy, could be a negative — especially compared to the horrors of legalized political corruption and rule by oligarchy? People don’t understand what democracy is, much less socialism.

    • There’s no shame. They are regular attendees at climate conferences — to protect their interests, while they discuss climate “mitigation” instead of real and effective climate action.
