Last night I couldn’t sleep. My entire apartment building quivered with an odd vibration. An earth tremor? No.

As it turns out, the U.S. Senate worked late into the night. Yes, on a weekend! I guess, anything to return a favor to friends.

The Republicans passed a tax plan to please large corporations and billionaires alike. Not only did they stay up late working, they killed two birds with one stone. I repeat: tax benefits for large corporations AND billionaires.

Matt Fuller and Arthur Delaney report for the Huffington Post. They say, “Most Republicans were ecstatic to pass the bill.” If you link to their article, you’ll see a beatific smile on Mitch McConnell’s face.

“…The big winners in the GOP bill that the Senate passed early Saturday morning [emphasis mine] are corporations and the wealthy…

Those procedural concerns did nothing to slow the bill, however, with Republicans falling in line to vote down a Democratic motion to adjourn Friday night. Senators then began a so-called vote-a-rama, in which amendments get up-or-down approval one after the other until lawmakers are exhausted enough to stop. Eventually, in the early hours of Saturday morning, senators moved to a final vote on the reconciliation bill, and it passed…”
