The Deal-Breaker Breaks Another Deal & What We Do About It

On Saturday, using the argument of a grade-schooler, Donald Trump explained why the United States is withdrawing from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, commonly referred to as the Nuclear Arms Treaty with Russia.

We’re not going to let them violate a nuclear agreement and do weapons and we’re not allowed to… We are going to develop the weapons.

~ Donald J. Trump

Just Another Broken Deal

It’s just one more carefully crafted deal the ironically self-professed “deal-maker” has broken, along with the Paris Agreement and the Iran Nuclear Deal. Obviously, it’s a huge business opportunity for weapons manufacturers. But what do arms control experts think about Trump’s withdrawal from the Nuclear Arms Treaty with Russia?

Arms control experts worry about the second- and third-order consequences of tearing up a long-standing nuclear treaty. Jeffrey Lewis, a nuclear weapons analyst with the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies in Monterey, Calif., said the U.S. has nothing to gain by walking away. “It’s a mistake,” he said. “Russia violated the treaty, but we’re going to take the blame for killing it? Why do Putin a favor?”

U.S. Looks Like a Stupid Bad Guy

Uh-oh. The United States is going to look like the bad guy. And stupid. Trump’s move heightens the threat of global nuclear disaster… Still, the Deal-Breaker thinks he’s made a smart move. Select “friends” will make a lot more money — which translates into a lot more power. So while we quake in our boots, trying to strategize what to do in case of nuclear fallout, expect the Deal-Breaker to make a splashy, terror-inducing presidential run in 2020 — with the financial help of his powerful “friends.”

We Protest Weapons & War

What do we do about this madness? The Deal-Breaker may run anything he wants, but we vote him out. Until then, we make our protests known. Below, activists protest Donald Trump’s loyal commitment to sell weapons to Saudi Arabia, despite their humanitarian crimes.

In the US, people have marched on the Pentagon to protest against US military actions overseas. The rally was organized by a coalition of activists from anti-war movements Answer Coalition, Code Pink, Veterans for Peace, and others.

The protesters said President Donald Trump is pressing ahead with his plan to sell arms to Saudi Arabia amid the kingdom’s bloody war on Yemen. They described it as disgraceful that the US is complicit in the murder of people all around the world. The protesters said they don’t want an economy that is based on killing people. Over 15000 Yemenis, most of them civilians, have been killed in the Saudi war on Yemen since 2015.

War is horrible. Nuclear war is particularly horrifying, and it can occur in a heartbeat. If you haven’t already, it’s time to join the Anti-War Movement.

“We are going to develop the weapons.”

Really?

Vote him out.

  • I read the Woodward book as well which well documented the fear that Trump’s advisors have of him making key decisions in foreign policy. Keeping Trump distracted from global realities seems to be a key way to handle his incompetency.

  • This broken deal is a childish move. Sort of like tossing ones hands in the air…rather than rolling up one’s sleeves to do the hard work of fixing the deal. I continue to send messages to my Congress delegation. Let’s do the hard work of fixing our politics…which Trump seems incapable of doing. Let’s vote for mature adults!

  • JoAnn, in short, everything he did not work on is a “disaster” which must be ended. Everything he works on is “beautiful” or the “best ever.” I am reading Bob Woodward’s bool “Fear,” which is excellent. He also cancels deals because he told his base he would. The fact he did not know what he was talking about when he did so is irrelevant. The fact he truly does not why trade deficits occur and that they are not the evil he thinks are is another. He is being advised by outliers – Bannon (although he is gone still speaks with him), Navarro (no legitimate economists supports his contention and two he cited, disagree with him or one said he is not an economist), Miller (is a hardline anti-immigration activist) and Bolton has been passed over before. If Mattis leaves, I will get even more worried. Keith

    • I’m worried, too, Keith. I know We The People can turn the insanity around — if there is enough time. With climate change and nuclear threat breathing down our necks, time is running out.

    • I acknowledge that elections are rigged — gerrymandering, voter purges, closed polling locations, and who knows what other All-American Interference is going on — but they are only able to push the numbers so far. The cheaters cannot overwhelm a healthy voter turnout.
